The purpose of this role is to analyse complex data sets, develop innovative models, and provide actionable insights that drive data-driven decision-making for us and our customers. . Your work will have a direct impact on our business strategy, operations, and overall performance.

The role

  • Data Analysis and Exploration: Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and relationships within large and complex data sets. Utilize statistical and machine learning techniques and data visualization to present findings in a clear and meaningful manner.
  • Model Development: Develop and implement machine learning algorithmsto solve business problems. This includes data preprocessing, feature engineering, model selection, and performance evaluation.
  • Data engineering: Collect, clean, and preprocess large volumes of structured and unstructured data from various sources. This involves data wrangling, data integration, and data quality assessment and improvement to maximize accuracy and reliability.
  • Decision support: Design decision-making algorithms and loss functions for maximal effectiveness and robustness. Measure and manage risk, making sure that unwanted behaviour is avoided. Conduct A/B testing and other experiments to measure the effectiveness of different strategies or interventions.
  • Machine Learning Implementation: Collaborate with software engineers and developers to deploy machine learning models into production systems. Ensure scalability, efficiency, and reliability of the models while maintaining data privacy and security.
  • Data Visualization: Create compelling data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to effectively communicate insights and recommendations to stakeholders. Present findings in a clear and concise manner to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with - and within - cross-functional teams, including business analysts, data engineers, software developers, and domain experts, to understand business requirements and provide data-driven solutions. Clearly articulate complex concepts and methodologies to stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
  • Driving safety, quality, and business improvements by ensuring that structures, systems, processes, and procedures are coordinated, effective, and efficient to meet business, commercial, and management systems requirements whilst improving margin to meet business objectives.
  • Continuous Learning and Improvement: Stay updated with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, AI, and related fields. Explore new tools, techniques, and methodologies to enhance the team's capabilities and drive innovation.
  • Liaise with other business areas/offices to ensure consistency in development and delivery of business/commercial services to internal and external clients.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. A Master's or Ph.D. degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or in a similar role, with a track record of successfully delivering data-driven solutions.
  • Expertise in Python, along with knowledge of SQL and other database languages and formats for data manipulation and extraction
  • Strong understanding of statistical concepts and machine learning.Experience with data visualization tools such as Matplotlib and Plotly - both static and interactive.
  • Experienced in formulating and implementing project plans and strategies to meet operational objectives
  • You must be customer-focused. It is a plus if you are able to build sustainable, operational and commercial relationships and alliances
  • You must be an experienced Docker user. Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Hadoop, Spark) and cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work on multiple projects with competing priorities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
