Chief Data Engineer

We are seeking a Chief Data Engineer to be the cornerstore of our new data engineering team within the Core Payments Platform. Your role will be essential in developing our new Data Platform, which supplies the bank with payments' data and insights through a strategic solution addressing the growing demand for comprehensive and complex payment data.

In this position, you will play a key role and guide the process of building our data analytics platform in Databricks. You will become the very first member of the team, which will expand with additional team members based on our collective success.

Databricks is our platform of choice, where we will develop data pipelines and ETL processes for sophisticated data solutions.

The role will combine technical leadership with mentoring, architectural design with a focus on implementation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise in the creation and implementation of our Data Platform within Databricks.
• Understand and employ best practices in data architecture.
• Design and execute data processing workflows and ETL pipelines in Databricks using Delta Tables and PySpark.
• Use SQL to query, manipulate, and analyse large datasets effectively.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and develop solutions.
• Continuously update and improve methodologies by staying informed about the latest advancements in data engineering and big data technologies.

Required Skills

• Databricks: Comprehensive knowledge of the platform’s capabilities.
• SQL: Proficiency in formulating complex queries and optimising performance.
• Spark: Practical experience with Apache Spark for big data processing and analytics; expertise in Spark streaming, Spark Dataframes.
• Python: Strong programming competencies in Python, including experience with PySpark, JSON, XML, Python Dictionary, and Pandas.
• Data Architecture: Profound understanding of data architecture and products.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills for identifying and resolving issues.

Experience

• Experience with the Databricks platform.
• Proven track record in designing and constructing ETL dataflows utilising Databricks.
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing and data lakehouse solutions.
